Obituary for Mae Ivy Downs

Mae Ivy Miller was born to the loving parents of Garfield Miller Sr. and Candace Miller on December 22, 1934, in McComb, Mississippi. She graduated from Valley Elementary School in McComb, Mississippi and Magnolia High School in Magnolia, Mississippi. She gave her life to God at an early age while attending Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in McComb, Mississippi. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to her loving husband Noah Downs, Jr. of Chicago, IL on January 29, 1953. In their earlier years of marriage, she pursued employment with Curtis Candy and Dryer Brothers over a five-year span. Following her career, she became a homemaker and devoted her love and time to her spouse and four children. She then went on to be ordained as a Missionary by Rev. Sallie Downs of Upper Room Missionary Baptist Church. Given her love for the Lord and dedication to serving her communities, she would join several churches over her lifetime. She began her Missionary work under the leadership of Rev. Walker at St. John Missionary Baptist Church and later on at Mount Pleasant serving under Rev. Redwell. During her later years, she was an active member at Shining Light Missionary Baptist Church with the late Pastor Isaiah Miller Sr. where she served on the Mother Board and remained a dedicated Missionary until her health began to decline. She loved the Lord and was a prayer warrior for all who graced her presence. She enjoyed cooking/baking for friends and family, traveling coast to coast with her loving husband of 67 years turning moments into memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Cards and condolences are accepted and addressed to Lynnett Davis at 9033 S. Phillips Chicago, IL 60617.
