Obituary for Leon D Rogers

Obituary
Leon D. Rogers, aka (Scrib) was born August 17, 1938 to the late Howard Rogers and Mary Cook, in Chicago, Il. He accepted Christ at an early age. In his later years, he joined Saint Margaret of Scotland Parish.
Leon attended Chicago Public Schools, where he graduated from Gladstone Elementary and Crane Technical High School. As a student, he was an active athlete. Leon was on the football and basketball team. Leon’s athletic ability afforded him a football scholarship to Kentucky State University. A knee injury sidelined him, and Leon returned home.
On October 22, 1960, Leon and Maxine were united in holy matrimony at Holy Family Church. To this union, two children were born.
Leon was employed at the Chicago Transit Authority and later retired from the Chicago Police Department after thirty years of service.
As an avid sports enthusiast, Leon was a softball pitcher, playing every Sunday with a Southside League. Leon also loved music, where he spent time as a DJ at several lounges. Later, Leon co-own two racehorses: “Glorious Paul” and “Bay Home” with his friend, the late Howard Amos. He genuinely enjoyed racing his horses at Sportsman Park.
Leon was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
God called Leon home on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, after a lengthy illness.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife Maxine; son, Kevin (Rita) and daughter, Karen; grandchildren: Sean (Carmen), Anica, Janay, Shannon and Kayla; great-grandchildren: Logan, Cristian, Harmony, Caleb, Jordan, Savannah, Camila and Kali; two brothers-in-law Winston, Wyatt and sister-in-law Lillie; nieces and nephews; along with a host of family and friends, especially the 108th St. “Riff-Raff” neighbors. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.

“I have fought a good fight,
I have finished the race,
I have kept the faith” 2nd Timothy 4:7
