Obituary for Keenan W. Quarles

Keenan’s Legacy

Keenan Wayne Quarles was born in Chicago, Illinois on February 21, 1947, to Burnice (Bernie) Quarles and Dorothy Mae McDaniel. He was the eldest of three children: Kevin Bryan Quarles and Karla Adrian Quarles.
Keenan attended Burnside Elementary, Chicago, IL., Harlan High School, Chicago, IL. and Lane College, Jackson, TN.

He married the love of his life, Gwendolyn James, on January 2, 1968. They celebrated 55 years of marriage on January 2, 2023. To their union, they had three daughters, Kenya, Kendra, and Kira.

Keenan was a hard worker and worked various jobs including at a hardware store, funeral home, and the US Postal Service. He later worked for Ford Motor Company and retired after 30 years of exemplary service.
He was very creative and adventurous. He could build just about anything and was more of a self-taught carpenter. He enjoyed barbeques, baking, traveling, spending time with family and riding his motorcycle. He was a fan of the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Bulls. He loved to laugh and loved gatherings.

His love was limitless and included honorary sons and daughters, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and neighbors who were all a part of his life. It also included extended family members from the marriages of his daughters and their families.

He departed earthly life on January 5, 2023, and is survived by his sister Karla Quarles, his wife, Gwendolyn Quarles, his daughters, Kenya Bell (Gary), Kendra Graham (Dennis) and Kira Smith (Martez); nine beloved grandchildren Alaysia, Challis, Cheaney, Dennis Jr., Christian, Brooklyn, Garyn, Braylon, Bradley; in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

May you rest in eternal peace knowing that WE ALL LOVED YOU IMMEASURABLY.
