Obituary for Hattie B. Evans-Williams

Mrs. Hattie Beatrice Evans-Williams (nee Jordan) was born 0n July 17, 1928, in Argo (now Summit), IL, to the union of Love Jordan and Alice Jordan (nee Bridges).

Hattie graduated from Nicholas Copernicus Elementary School and Lindblom High School. Hattie was joined in matrimony to James Evans, and they had three children, Alice, James, and Patricia.

After 15 years as a homemaker, Hattie graduated from Lydia Adams School of Beauty Culture and excelled more than 30 years career as a Hair Salon owner and hair stylist. Hattie also attended Olive Harvey College and retired from a manager position with the Chicago Board of Education.

Hattie Evans-Williams accepted Christ as a child and was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Englewood. As a young Christian, Hattie served at Englewood Apostolic Church where her godfather was Pastor. In 1958 Hattie joined St Mark United Methodist Church and remained a member until her death. She was a founding member of the Lydia Circle and continued to participate in many church activities as her health permitted. Hattie loved charities and was a long-time volunteer at Provident Hospital.

In her later years, Hattie found a new life partner and was joined in matrimony to John Williams and was additionally blessed by her stepson, Mike.

Hattie Evans-Williams was a loving, caring family-oriented person. She organized the Jordan Family Club with her sisters and brothers in 1970. This group has expanded through two additional generations to sponsor our family reunions and encourage family unity. Hattie loved to travel and often traveled with her siblings and cousins to Europe and China. She encouraged the family to have reunions in every state where a family member lived.
On Friday, August 26, 2022, at 4:15 pm our beloved Hattie Evans-Williams departed this life peacefully with family at her side.

Hattie Evans-Williams was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James Evans; her husband John Williams; and her siblings Clinton Jordan, Tyler (TJ) Shipp, Mercedes Jones, Verda Brown, Lovie Lee, Edward Jordan, George Jordan, Alice Williams, Evelyn Benson, James Jordan, Mary Ann Howze, and Phillip Jordan, and granddaughter, Christelle Evans.

Hattie leaves to mourn, her children Rev. Alice Brown, James Evans (Evelyn), Patricia Evans and Mike Gilmore (Loretta); grandchildren, Angela Honeycutt, Rhonda Hilliard (Tony), and Andre Herron; six great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren; sister, Doris Faison, sister-in-laws, Eloise Jordan and LaVerne Jordan; a host of nieces and nephews, and beloved friends.
